Work Hounslow – Apprenticeships

Work Hounslow is part of the Hounslow Council which helps people find jobs. They also provide information for apprenticeships for young people who want to start on the career ladder with a salary while receiving training for that job. Training ranges from GCSE level up to degree level training with qualified specialists in that industry sector.

Aimed for anyone aged 16+ there is wide range of industries to work and many employers pay more than the £3.70 minimum wage.

West Thames College – Advanced Learner loan & loan bursary

Advanced Learner Loan

It is possible to receive financial support to help with costs of studying at college or training if you are aged 19 and above on your first day of a level 3 or higher course. The loan is paid directly to your college and your loan can be set by you if the loan is a minimum of £300.

This is loan is available across the United Kingdom and some UK nationals in the EU.

West Thames courses eligible for the advanced learner loan are:

  • Access to Higher Education Diplomas
  • Most BTEC Level 3 programmes (Certificates/Diploma/Extended Diploma)
  • CELTA
  • VICT Level 3 Certificates/Diplomas
  • NVQ Level 3 or 4

Loan Bursary

The loan bursary is designed to help those who receive the Advanced Learner Loan and require additional support. The bursary particularly aims to benefit disadvantaged and vulnerable students and is available to anyone eligible to study at West Thames College or any of the college’s contracted partners.

The four key components to the loan bursary are

  • Additional Learning Support (ALS)
  • Financial Support
  • Childcare
  • Residential support

Like the Advanced Learner Loan students need to be aged 19 or higher on the start of their course.

Smart Works

Smart Works is an interview specialist service for women. The service provides helpful tips and information for women with an upcoming confirmed interview and will help them with picking professional work attire. Each session lasts 2 hours and will be designed to help you calm any worries you may have, leaving you in a confident and professional mindset before the interview.

Smart works has many high-quality clothes and accessories that have either been donated from professional women or provided by partnered retailers and is yours to keep and is entirely free!

In 2015 Smart Works trained and dressed 2000 women from every Borough in London with 57% getting the job.
