Anchor Counselling is not an emergency service, but we understand someone may be in a crisis. If you've already been given a Crisis Line number from a health professional, please call it, otherwise use the services we have listed below.

Samaritans

The Samaritans operate a free to call service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, if you want to talk to someone in confidence. Call them on 116 123.

NHS 111

NHS 111 is designed to aid people who need urgent but not life threatening care. They are best suited for people who may have the following worries, concerns and symptoms:

  • If your existing mental health problems have gotten worse
  • Experience a a new mental health problem or experience for the first time such as a panic attack
  • Thoughts of or acting on thoughts of self harming that is not life threatening
  • If someone shows early signs of dementia
  • If you are suffering from domestic and/or un-domestic violence or physical, sexual or emotional abuse

You can also contact your local GP practice for an emergency contact which will provide you with an appointment with the first available doctor to help you manage your emergency.

A&E or call 999

A&E and 999 is not limited to just physical problems, it considers a mental health crisis, both life-threatening and non-threatening as a medical emergency.

You can call 999 for yourself or for someone you know who may be in life-threatening medical and mental health situations. The operator will provide initial support while an emergency support is on their way to meet you.

If you are worried about your safety you can travel directly to your closest A&E who have special areas with a liaison psychiatry team (or psychological medicine service) to keep you safe and treat you if you have seriously harmed yourself.

MIND - Planning for an Emergency / Crisis

Mind is a mental health charity that offers information and advice to people with mental health problems. Although they are not an emergency service they have provided a planning for emergency page.
